'How to Video': Solitaire Opened

Post by Bobbie »

Fellow Cassie Members, last week Tim Kennelly opened one of my solitaires for some upgrading and we made a short 'how to video' and would like to share the advise in case someone is in need of the information. http://www.vimeo.com/1398616

Bobbie took the time to update the video to include the initial caution I added after someone mentioned I had not shown that the sleds should be taken out first and I decided I should caution about unplugging the unit and avoiding static shock damage, etc and that changed the location of the video to http://www.vimeo.com/1398616.

You get that private message apparently any time you try to access a video that does not exist as well as if it is actually "private".

To anyone considering performing either of these operations, as mentioned, this did not start out to be a how to video and Bobbie picked up the cam a bit into the disassembly so I would like to add a couple of cautions.

Unplug the unit prior to doing anything.

I also recommend disconnecting everything from the unit as well and notate where everything came from.

Remove both drive sleds prior to taking the six screws out of the back so you do not forget about removing them prior to attempting to remove the top half.

Ground yourself (touch metal) prior to opening the unit and stay away from touching anything besides the cables, drive and burner to avoid shorting anything out.

Be very careful not to drop a screw into the unit (unlikely to cause problems by itself, but still.

If you do do not reach into the unit to remove screw, rather take the unit firmly into your hands, turn it over and gentle "shake" the screw out.

On that same note use a small dish, lid or something to contain the loose small screws so you do not lose them.

These are fairly soft headed screws being small so use firm pressure when unscrewing them the first time to avoid stripping their phillips slotted heads.

That pretty much sums up what comes to mind that was not in the video.

My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

Nice work by both of you. This might start a trend, and to be honest I'm not sure why all of us "professionals" havent been doing this (cassie how to videos) already. :geek:
