Firewire is Dead

Post by dvss4u »

My Prestige won't recognize any firewire device...front or back inputs. Anyone ever experience this? and if so any solutions, like replacement of parts?
Your welcome to call 417-337-5901
Thanks in advance,

Sure, bad news, it's easy to fry the DV board if you hot-swap (aka: connect or disconnect a firewire device with both the Prestige and cam powered on).

That was the most expensive repair at Boulder at one time, I believe like $650.

I think they sent out a notice a year or so ago that they no longer support repairs like that as they ran out of the old parts, but not positive about that.

I'd contact official tech support and inquire about that.

At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

Also check the DV sockets very carefully - all four pins must look the same and be at the same distance from the front of the socket.

"If" a pin has been pushed in it may be touching somewhere behind the socket. This can cause both sockets not to work.

Have you tried additional firewire cables?? Have you tried importing/exporting to a different firewire device to/from the Cassie???

Try importing to the Prestige using S-Video. If that works :-( you probably have a dead firewire card.

So this morning I fired up the Prestige and tried the firewire input and plugged in a cable and it did not work, however, I accidently bumped the cable before unplugging and it came on! So I believe it must be a "pin issue" and I will have to look at it internally to see if it can be corrected. (this is the front dv port) so it will be easier to examine, and ideas are very welcome, and THANKS to all the responses.

thanks for this earlier response...
