Advice required for transition problem - please.

Post by fireflash567 »

Hello.
I am new to this forum and also new to Casablanca.
My problem is:- I have converted video footage from colour to grey and slowed the pace down with Motion Perfect. I have inserted Crossfade transitions to the storyboard. When I play back, the transition returns to colour for the duration of the transition then goes back to grey.
What am I doing wrong?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks....

Hi Tony,
you are correct, I tried your example and it doesn't work. Even without
using the slowdown effect.
But Itried a workaround and it had success.
First add all scenes that have to be greyed to storyboard and create.
Make a scene of the storyboard.
You will find this created scene in your scene bin.
Split again and add to storyboard.
Now add your transitions and create.

Tony,

It is the order you apply the effects, transitions.

If you Add the transition first and then the IP Effect it will word correctly.

However, as you have already done the rendering time I would just Remove the Crossfade transition, Create a Scene of each IP Effected Scene, use Replace to substitute in the newly created Scene in each appropriate place and then Add the Crossfade Transition back in.

If you have additional audio tracks already added in it gets a bit more complicated as you need to do what I have described, but use Insert to add them over the top of the originals so as not to disturb your existing audio.

Maybe I am misunderstanding or it is a PAL issue but I can't duplicate same.

I placed a 5 second scene to grey next to a 5 second scene with color. No problem.

I then reversed the above and still no problem with a crossfade.

I then added two grey 5 second clips on the SB and placed a crossfade.

At no time did the grey scenes exhibit color.

Am I doing this correct?

Tim,
if I reverse the order , first crossfade then both scenes to grey, the transition time shows color as before.

Well that is strange, I can verify this.

It use to be if you added the transition first and then applied the IP Effect it would all work as you expected.

Well then, either convert the Scenes with Color to Grey in Special or the Scene Create method and Add/Replace to the Storyboard prior to adding the transition.

I will report this issue to the company.

Hi,
I always try to avoid overlapping IP effects with transitions.
Just use the "special" effects instead of the IP effects. You will directly get a new scene each time in the scene bin that contains the applied effect.
Then add those scenes to the storyboard and add the transitions. This works perfectly for Smart Edit and for Bogart SE.
