Drop Outs and/or Pixelization

Post by MarkHendrix »

I have some drop outs/ pixelization in some footage I would really like to use...is Akeba the software I need or CB paint? I saw drop outs listed in the Akeba description.

Thanks for your help,
Mark

Mark,

Well, Akaba would work on just one frame at a time and would be excrutiating to do.

I will let Lou respond regarding CB Paint.

I suggest going into Special and applying Control Image and varying the controls only minutely to tweak the over all picture.

Say, boost Contrast to 105 and/or Saturation to 120, Ok.

I have found CI and a couple of the others actually blend out light amounts of drop out.

You could also try Motion Perfect tweaking the setting very little, say 97% to try to accomplish the same thing although you would lose audio with that.

At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

I agree with what has been said, but depending upon your footage and how long each pixilation lasts, you can sometimes get away with splitting out individual frames and still have a reasonably smooth picture. Again original audio might be a problem, although it is not always seriously affected.

This plus the other suggestions might save the day.

I like Tim cannot advise on CB Paint, but I'm sure Lou can advise.

CB Paint will always be preferable to use over Akaba. If the pixelation is over a non moving background then you can simply make a brush (mask) of the background and then apply it over the pixelated part. If the pixelation is on a moving background or subject then you would have to paint over the pixelation frame by frame but it will be much faster and look much better than Akaba.

The healing tracker as Volker pointed out is the proper way to eliminate a dropout or dead pixel. The set-up can be tedious if the area surrounding the blemish is "busy." The nice part is the program actually moves along with the blemish. Another way is frame by frame with the panto tool located in the left dropdown menu by the tools. There is also a healing tool as well which differs from the healing tracker. Again...frame by frame.
