PAL USERS:

Volker on 3.5 Bogart...use the highest setting "GOOD" for PS3 if you are running 4.13-try that. Can't go back to 4.6 in ARABESK once 3.5 is installed.

The NORMAL setting shoots the bit rate up to 28 and down to 16...variable. Good and FAST are not variable, so it's not a bit rate issue as the other PAL user discovered and reported.

I don't think it is a PS3 issue. 4.6 ARABESK works fine in the new update to PS3 and 3.4 BOGART-PAL.

I have been following the German listserve. There are others having the same problem in PAL land.
Volker wrote:My Sony Playstation shows similar problems when playing back an AVCHD file from a DVD. And I think it has become even worse with the latest firmware updates provided by Sony.
Now on longer AVCHD clips (longer than 60 minutes) the audio starts to stutter and it also disappears completely during playback.

I think this might have something to do with ACVDH and "interlaced video". One should try to render the whole project into progressive video before adding and burning it with Arabesk HD. I did not have the time yet for this kind of test. And, it is just an idea.

Do you know if MS are aware of the problems playing AVCHD files burnt on DVD and what action they are taking to solve the problem?

Alan

I can only assume, following the European listserve, that it is reported.

Hi Alan,
sorry to ask my question again since you did not answer.
Your HD film is edited in S-4000Pro, OK.
Then you export to harddrive and import to Vegas and burn AVCHD-DVD
or BR disk?
Now when you play in Sony BR player your initially described problems are gone?
Another new question: The PC burned AVCHD-DVD plays in MediaManager?

Hi Hans,
Sorry I've not replied yet, so here goes.

(Your HD film is edited in S-4000Pro, OK.) Yes, I enjoy editing in the Cassi its so quick and easy. I edit both HDV and AVCHD.

(Then you export to harddrive and import to Vegas and burn AVCHD-DVD
or BR disk?) I export the story board to external HD formated to FAT32 then import to Vegas Video where I make an AVCHD file on DVD. I do not have a Blue Ray burner in either Cassi or PC. I always export as an HDV file.

(Now when you play in Sony BR player your initially described problems are gone?) Yes all the problems have gone away. I've been doing this for the last year. I just loaded the latest firmware to the player, it has made no improvement to playing Cassi discs.

(Another new question: The PC burned AVCHD-DVD plays in MediaManager?) I've just tried this out and the disc plays but without sound.

Overall I'm pleased with my editor. But feel cheated over my loss of CBPaint, and irritated that I had to buy Vegas Video to be able to play my HD productions in the quality I expected. Thank for the information on SE4 I'll get this when its available in the UK.

Cheers Alan.

Hi Alan,
many thanks for your answer.
I'm also disapointed as many other users not having CBPaint2 anymore.
Although paid but not released for Bogart users.
I save all my edited HD films on Linux-Ext3-formatted HDDs for almost
2 years now.
I play my HD films from HDD to WD-player which is connected via HDMI
to full HD TV set, crisp and clear.
This way I don't need a BR-Burner and BR-Player.
For my relatives I burn AVCHD-DVDs or downconverted SD-DVDs.

Hi Hans,

What is a WD player and how does it connect to an HDD?

Hi Alan,
the WD-Media-Player is a small unit with ext. power supply.
You attach your HDD via USB to this unit and HDMI-cable
to full HD-TV and off you go.
If you are interested in more info please post your email
address here or in "Private-Message".
Email is much better, because attachments can be added.
