Adding Film

Post by GregB »

Thanks everyone for the help last time.
Is there any way to speed up the process of adding a film about 2 hours long.
Thanks Greg

Greg,

You are spoiled by our systems, transcoding the same two hours of video into MPEG2 (that is what it is doing) to author a DVD on a typical PC is an overnight project. :D

Even on the newer duo core machines it is slower than on ours.
My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

Tim, do you think the S4000Pro will do it faster?

Paul,
transcoding to MPG2 on my S-4000Pro takes approx. the same time as on my SolitairePlus.

No, I do not.

As Hans mentions about the same, perhaps a tad slower.

Most of the second generation machines have a hardware chip (C-Cube) that does the encoding for us which is considerably faster than the typical PC/Mac based processors although with duo core, quad core, etc processing power is catching up.

The bottom line is there is an incredible amount of number crunching involved in compressing data (video/audio) from AVI to MPEG2 and it simply takes time, no way around it.

With S-4000Pro a 66 minute project was rendered in 60 minutes.
This would be a factor of 0,90 or a tad below realtime.
