I have an old Renommee that I am having trouble with. It won't burn a disc and I can't import stills thru Photo Studio 2. I am thinking a full destructive reinstall. What do I need to do that? I have had this thing so long I don't think I have any software. also I have a hard drive in it that I can't get out. Someone said there was a rod that ran from the back of the drive to the rear of the case and if I could diable that I could get it out! Any old timers that may help me?

That depends if the Renommee uses the SmartEdit software - or it was upgraded to BogartSE in 2009 (Ultra Upgrade with DVI output).
  • SmartEdit stores all activation codes inside the hardware. Every code ever entered has been "burned" into the graphic board. A fresh installation is always possible with a Renommee SmartEdit Boot CD and an SmartEdit add-on DVD.
  • BogartSE stores all license codes on the hard-drive. But they can be exported to an USB drive before doing a fresh installation (Bogart / Settings / System / Product installation / USB-Symbol / Export). After a fresh installation from a Bogart Boot-DVD, the system will fetch all codes from the attached USB drive.
What software and version is currently shown in the Settings menu :?:
What happens when trying to burn a disc :?:
What happens when importing pictures :?:

If I remember, depending on your software version, still MUST be 300 dpi/ppi resolution to import.

  • If running on SmartEdit, the card holding the pictures should not be bigger than the system RAM :!:
  • PhotoStudio 2 is limited to import pictures smaller than 8 MB and 8 MegaPixel. Bigger one will cause crashes. This software is not sold any more and as for BogartSE, a crossupdate for the QuickPhoto 2 software is offered by MacroMotion. :P

The StudioPro an the Saphir are two powerful machines and upgradeable with graphic cards for fast H.265/HEVC export or 4k Blu-ray disc (planned for this summer). :P All software can be found HERE :!:

It was only 7 pictures I was trying to import but all seven were grabbed from Video so they may well be under 300DPI. It is also possible the drive is bad! It is the original drive since I think 95. I only use it now for our church services mostly so maybe its time to find another editor! Do you know how to disable the rod that locks the drives in! Thats what I hate, I have 7 drives, I am limited to 1 500 GB drive thats in it!

PhotoStudio is made for importing high resolution JPEG photos. A video grab could have a too small resolution or the format may not comply to the digital picture standard.

What serial number has the Renommee, so I can check the active software and see if I find another solution :?:

The Renommee and Prestige hard-drive drawers grab a hook at the bottom of the drive bay: PICTURE
It can't be removed without a key or without doing severe damage to the system case. This is what it was built for. To protect against removal.

It would be possible to use extreme force on the drive and try to bend the system case downwards with a flat screwdriver. But the case will most likely be damaged and won't be able to secure any other drive. This could lead to contact problems when operating. :? Better give MacroSystem Americas a call and ask them if they have a spare key for the Renommee drive. There is a number engraved on the left side of the lock :!:

If there is no spare key available, you could also attend a local locksmith to open it.

Thanks. So that is the 12 year old SmartEdit 7. :?
  • the memory card with the pictures should not be bigger than 512 MB
  • it should be FAT or FAT32 formatted
  • the Card-Drive software must be installed to recognize the card-reader
  • the memory card must be in the card-reader before connecting the card-reader to the Renommee
  • only pictures/cards with the Design rule for Camera File system are supported
  • deleting and re-installing PhotoStudio 2 v2.11 could also solve issues.
  • normal USB thumb drives or hard-drives can't be used
As long as there is space on the drive, photo import should work. If there are already pictures in PhotoStudio, you can delete the old ones in case they cause problems.

Take a look at the LOCK itself on that drawer :!: Where you insert the key, there is a number. With this number it may be possible to find a spare key for that drawer. :P
flvideo wrote:when I had it It wouldn't unlock the drive. It wouldn't turn!
Then either the lock is damaged - or you inserted the wrong key. The number of the drawer and the number of the key must match in the last three digits. (old drawer+key combinations had just three digits, new ones had three digits on the drawer but four on the key - so there is a 50:50 chance to find a fitting spare key). I have a bag with three digit keys, but no four digit versions. :?
