Kron plus with two drives can sometimes be a little finicky and confused. I would try disconnecting Drive 1 (second drive) and install the new drive on its own as Drive 0. If this works ok add the second drive but do a full install on Drive 0 (so that it knows the second drive is there) before installing on Drive 1. If Kron says no disk drive found with only one connected, it is safe to assume the drive has a problem.

Thanks, Martyn. I did try that eventually and still had no luck. At this point I'm going to order another new drive and give it another go. At least I know it SHOULD work

Lo & behold, my new drive arrived today - same exact model as the last, but this time I got it installed and running - no issues at all. I have to assume the other drive was at fault. Thanks for everyone's help.
