Cheese-Rolling!?

Post by CKNewman »

I don't think we have anything like this on our side of the pond. We have frog jumping contests, pie eating contests, bull riding, even trying to catch a greased pig. But nothing like this I've ever heard about.

Martyn, Ian, Beachy,..anyone?

Just one of many weird and wonderful competitions held in the UK each year. I think that one was to promote the manufacturing of cheese in the area. Here are some more http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/in ... vents.html

And Craig, there are even more quirky events, usually local customs and traditions. The vast majority seem to be an excuse for a free for all semi punch up or rough and tumble. Rugby football is a more refined version of this type of event.

Now you know why there is a “Great” in Britton. ;)

If health and safety standards had been invented a few hundred years ago, I doubt that most of these would have got past the initial risk assessment. Ah progress eh.

Similar to sports like skiing, “ you strap planks of plastic to your feet, and slide down a steep snow covered mountain? Are you nuts?” etc. Or in Martyn’s case you jump out of a flying machine at 15,000ft - whaaaat?. :ugeek:
