Insta 360 camera

Post by Christopher6206 »

Anyone out there have an Insta 360 One X camera that they have used with Bogart? I believe it comes with it's own software and I've seen that Bogart can edit 360 video. But I'm curious about it's 5.7K resolution. What happens if you try to import that into Bogart? Error? Conversion? Is it better to use it's own software or Bogart to edit the video? I've read that editing the footage using it's own editing software can be quite a learning curve.

It will downconvert. The highest right now is 4K and UHD. 4X the resolution of HD. I have no experience with 360.

With the Bogart machines it will down convert to HD whilst the B4W machines would do 4K/UHD.

I'd use the Bogart Software, as it's easy, and see how you get on - don't forget to let us know as not many of us have that camera to try.

Thanks for the repiles. Is there special software to use in Bogart to edit 360 video? I'm not sure I get it. I just read somewhere that Bogart could edit 360 video but it didn't say how. Like how do you look around in 360? Up down right and left? Does the editor just recognize it as 360 and lets you look around somehow?

I'm afraid that I don't actually know as I haven't had any such footage to play with yet.

I thought that you just imported 'as normal' and then you can trim & split etc.

It's in the Export menu that you then get the 360 option so I'm assuming that this allows the 360 data to go with the video clip/film so that the 360 player software then lets you view it and pan around.

Can you load some into Bogart to try ?

I don't own the camera yet. It's been a year since it was released and though there is no evidence, speculation from folks is that another better version will be released soon. Like around the holiday season. So I'm waiting to see what features the new one will have and if the price will drop on the current One X afterwards. I'll definitely add to this post once I get one .

You can import 360° footage to Bogart, edit (with it's limitations) and set the 360° tag at the export menu. (bottom left)
Image

But 360° is nothing a real video editor would want to have. A video editor is telling a story with a movie. 360° recording is placing the camera somewhere completely alone - hiding yourself from it and record everything that is around that place. Sure, you can produce some kind of story... but it you do a real 360° video, you give the viewer (alone, with the VR headset in front of the eyes) the power to look where ever he/she wants. You never know where they may look at a certain time. You may have some "action" going on in the scene... but if a butterfly on the opposite side of the camera position is looking nice, the one with the VR glasses won't see your "action".

Nice for showing places but not for any certain action within a scene. Take a look at this YouTube video. You could do that with Bogart too. You can navigate around with holding + dragging the mouse inside the video. If you do that... think of your last video project and how a 360° recording would have been. ;)

With a 360° video, the editor is giving away most aspects of producing a good movie. Sure, it's a nice and new thing. But the viewer will have to see the same movie over and over to see everything. Or did you see the bike driving by in the last scene :?:
