Paul,

I've never seen any discussion on 8 or 16 bit programs. Even the Avio was based on a Pentium processor which is 32-bit. Are you referring to the program code or the color value being 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 :?:

The program code. The higher the program bit rate the more complex the program code and thus the higher quality effect. The 64 bit AfterEffects programs are actually rendered at sub pixel levels and are outstanding. The jump to 16 bit programs for us would be like the difference between night and day and would keep us happy for many years and would bring us up to entry level professional. CB Paint was done by a professional program house so it only stands to reason it was done at 16 bit, their TV Paint is probably 32 bit. They probably don't want to invest all the time into rewriting CB Paint because it's such a complex code writing undertaking for so few users. The one effect (can't remember which one right now) on the MS German site described it as "16 bit High Quality". So what have we been getting all these years, chopped liver. :lol: :lol:
