DVD in UK

Post by BobC »

I have a friend who is a tour guide. He is currently with a group primarily from England and is videoing parts of the trip. He asked this question which I pass along to you. If he makes copies of the DVD, will the folks from England be able to view it when they get home? My answer is, I think so as it will not have a region code on the disc, but I would rather ask my friends here who actually have experience with this.

Only if they have a DVD player   . (LOL) I have had no problems with DVDs made on the Casablanca series or even standalone DVD burners when played back internationally. Nowadays that is no guarantee though  How about some specifics as to what your friend is shooting with, editing with and duplicating with??

He's recording on one of the mini dvd camcorders (have no idea which one) and said he had Roxio on his laptop. That's really all he told me.

The compatibility issue would be the PAL (theirs) versus NTSC (ours) format differences, but I believe England legally mandated their players/televisions be manufactured capable of playback of the NTSC format along with the PAL format many years ago.
My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

What Tim said. Worst case scenario would be if your friend was using some type of DVD camera recording some type of AVCHD files and then doing some editing on a PC with multiple passes of special effects and then duplicating the whole mess including corrupted files onto some cheap off brand brand DVDs. Don't think it can't happen. I have been delivered such "masters" for duplicating and distribution when I couldn't find a DVD player to play the disc all the way thru..
Sounds like your friend has a decent shot at making it work.

I don't think you will have an issue, I have never had a problem playing DVD's made from various sourses in the US.
