Most consumers are after capturing family footage under decent lighting conditions, either outside or an at least decently lighted room.

They are not shooting a ton of race car footage, high flash scenarios (and frankly, outside of the disco DJ scenario Lou supplied most people do not have a problem with the rolling shutter look that some videogs are making a big deal about) these cams work very well so the technology will continue to flourish.

It's pretty simple, If you cannot work around the specific issues for what you shoot, stick to CCD based cams.
