I got a vhs video conversion job. The vhs tapes look like there is mold or something on the tape. You can see it theough the window it looks as though it is on the edge of the tapes :?: . Should I take a chance that I can load it from a vhs player? The people who gave them to me live right on the ocean. Anybody have this problem.

As long as you have a one use, throw it away VCR player. . .

Otherwise, this is a no brainer, do not put this in your machine.

Is there a way to clean VHS tapes. I heard some time ago about a process but never heard any more. I also have a job coming in to convert a large number of vhs tapes. Another interesting job I have coming is to convert some old 16MM film to DVD. These were shot in the 30's during the depression. This fellows father was in the film industry when the depression came about, so he made a living for some years with his 16MM camera shooting children playing puttin them together with cartoons which he had worked on, silent I might add. He advertised to the community come to the movies Saturday and see your kids in the movies. I have another ladie coming with film of Eisenhowers inaugration. Ain't this business neat??? Bob...

I use a "Keston MK-50 high speed tape rewinder and cleaner".
I bought mine from Australia. I am currently doing an insurance job, 50 tapes that have been in a flood, not only wet, but dirty!
Half way through cleaning and transfering them to DVD without any failures!

Thanks Richard I'll look into that. How does it work? Is it a wet cleaner or dry? What part of New Zealand are you in? I flew into Christ Church several times in the 60's. Bob...

Hi Bob,
There are both wet and dry systems. I have the dry system and it works great!
Look at http://www.kestonholdings.com.au .

I am in Upper Hutt, 30k North of Wellington.
