LP or SP recording?

Just read an intersesting article Re. LP/SP recording.
A VHS Track was 49 microns wide!
A DV-LP track is just 6.7 microns wide, which is about one twelfth the diameter of a human hair!!. Its not difficult to see that the accuracy of mechanical and tape path alignment inside the camcorder is crucial! DV-SP tracks at 10 microns, offer a better prospect of good data recovery in the event of slight mechanical and tracking errors that can arise during playback in a different deck or cam. or in the same one that has been run in and worn. To those who use LP recrding to save on cost....Beware........Beachy

Good post. This is why a LP recording will not play on different cameras at times. Canon is notorious for having difficulty in the LP SD mode with other cameras and decks.

Another point......this is why LP is never used for long GOP recording in HDV.
