Blu-ray playback

Post by fredhodson »

My Blu-ray recording to BD-R won't playback on my PS3
I have just received by S-2000 (Thursday Nov. 5th)
I have opened project - Image Normal - Format HD
I have added an HD video to my project list
I have edited, no effects, nothing special
I have selected Arabesk 4.5
I have selected Add Film, it has added.
I have loaded BD-R disc in DVD tray (Verbatim)
I have selected -Settings - Max - Blu-ray 25 GB - AVCHD
I have selected -Write DVD. It did.
It won't play on my PS-3(60GB)... Latest updates installed.
I have no other playback options accept the S-2000
Does play on Media Manager - playback Looks very good.
What can I do to get it to play back on PS3 and other players?
Any Ideas? Thanks
LouBruno

Was the disc finalized properly? That may be the problem. You did everything correct. I have PS 3 and my Blu-ray discs play fine. However, go into your PS 3 SETTINGS. There are NEW options that relate to Blu-ray. If you did an update, there may be a setting that was changed, a possibility.

Here is another way/option:

Place a USB drive into the 4000/2000/4100

In the PROJECT window, choose the HDV save option via the dropdown menu

NOW....................place the USB flash drive in your personal computer

.Open the flash drive and make a FOLDER (a must) called VIDEO in CAPITAL letters.

.DRAG....the streaming vid. file into this folder....it is an MPEG-2 (HD) file

.Place the flash drive into the USB port of PS 3

It will now play.

Thanks Bruno I'll give that a try. Doesn't Arabeck 4.5 automatically finalize as a part of the authoring process?

AVCHD DVD/BD and full 1080 BD disks play fine in my PS 3.

"I have opened project - Image Normal - Format HD"

In future image should be set to Full for HD projects - although this wouldn't affect the DVD as such.

"I have selected Add Film, it has added.
I have loaded BD-R disc in DVD tray (Verbatim)
I have selected -Settings - Max - Blu-ray 25 GB - AVCHD
I have selected -Write DVD. It did."

At this stage you would normally go to settings first as this 'sets' Arabesk to receive AVCHD files and you get an 'HD' at the top right of the screen.

Can you see this ?

Yes....but that is one of the links in the chain. If it was not properly finalized (corrupted) then it will not play.

Also...if you are using a Blu-ray duplicator, make sure that duplicator has the proper and latest firmware updates to duplicate AVCHD files. The ECHO series of the past is an example of a duplicator that had firmware updates.

Your right Lou it does not appear to be finalizing the disc. It loads video through part 1 and the progress bar moves as the DVD is burning. When it gets the part 2 it shows the progress bar for a few seconds ... the progress bar does not move. It then goes away and "Finalize" never appears. Next I went to a new SD project and loaded it into Arabesk and burned a standard DVD and it went through the step 1 and step 2 and finalize exactly as expected. When completed the SD disc played back as it should on PS# and DVD players. Is it possible that Arabesk 4.5 did not load properly when it was installed?

MichaelD. Yes HD appears. But it appears that Arabesk is not finalizing the disc.

.Try a very short 30 second HD project>ARABESK HD>See if that finalizes. Use a regular DVD-R to save money. If it FINALIZES, then the problem is related to your scene(s) in the storyboard.

.If the above does not work, uninstall ARABESK and re-install

You may want to try creating a scene of the entire SB. OR..................take your HD project out to HD tape (if you can) and re-import if the first piece of advice does not work.

Lastly, try another media/brand of DVD's/Blu-ray as a last resort. I think everything is covered here.

Thanks Lou. I reinstalled Arabesk 4.5 and did a short test on a standard DVD and it did work fine. I'm now going to try the full project on Blu-ray.
Thanks again I'll keep you informed. Fred

Lou. It appears that the reload of Arabesk solved the problem. Thank you. :D
