Re: Ridiculous
Well, just replaced the firewire; got the 6 pin version that fits in back. Still, does not work. I tried it w/ another video camera, no dice. Then I tried old SD DV footage and tried to load into an SD project and when clicking on "video", you normally can see the images from the cam, but I received a message that indicated there was no DV signal. So whatever it is, it seems like there is no transmission from the cam to the S4k. It used to work, although it was hit or miss. Is it a sequencing thing I am missing? Really don't know what else to try. Any ideas appreciated.

Re: Ridiculous
Also, just tried to load out to miniDV tape via Finish- HDV Recorder Controls- Record to VCR. The timecode on screen rolls like it's transferring, but nothing records to the tape in the cam.
Again though, I replaced what I thought was a faulty 4 pin DV cable (and still think it might be b/c the signla fluttered in and out), with a 6 pin firwire that connects in back, so I have not tried the 4 pin firewire yet (which would be an "apples-apples" swap). I'm wondering if there are any known issues w/ connection probs using the 6 pin firewire? I should probably just grab the 4 pin firewiore and try it but it's getting nuts. Definetly some kind of communication issue going on, just not sure what exactly.

Re: Ridiculous
I want to confirm you are connecting to the 'correct' 6-pin DV port on the back of your S4000. There are two of them on the rear of the S4K and the only functioning one is the one on the left side (if you are behind your unit looking towards the front)... the port with the other USB connections. If this was already mentioned forgive the duplication (I just scanned this this thread to ensure it was not previously mentioned but did not see it)
For those who are members of my website you will see the details of your functioning ports with photos on this page
Regards,
Chet

Re: Ridiculous
Good point Chet.
You definitely have to plug into the six pin port above the USB ports as the other does not work.
I don't know of any issues with the rear six pin port and personally use it for both import and export all the time without issue.
You are now saying SD export is not working for you either?
This is obvious, but because of that easily overlooked, you are in a SD Project when you are trying to import/export SD, correct?
And if using a HDV cam you have set it to DV and power cycled it since setting it to DV?
If neither the front or rear ports work with DV or HDV that sounds like a blown firewire board.
I hope you have not been connecting or disconnecting the firewire cable from the cam or the S4000Pro with both units on. . .

My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.

Re: Ridiculous
Yes, that was it. Was using the wrong port. Did not see that other port, as it was buried amongst the others and positioned sideways. The other port was more readily visible.
Thank you!
Thank you!

Tim-
No, I always sequence it the same. Both units off, connect firewire to cam, power on cam, power on s4k.

After you have helped him successfully and he is happy now
maybe he is willing to share his real name now?
Or still to shy?
