Why the bars on 16:9 HD product?
I just received my new S2000 and I'm trying to learn it asap. Recorded via firewire my HD footage - project setting format was HD. Watched the first burned dvd - a "practice" project - on my flatscreen 16:9 HD tv with a Sony dvd player. Was surprised to see the 2 bars on the picture - expected picture to fill the screen. The scene bin and storyboard clips also have the 2 bars. Is this normal? Is there something I did wrong? Any way to correct this? I have other questions but thanks for any help on this one.

Make sure your settings in ARABESK are 16:9.

Re: Why the bars on 16:9 HD product?
thanks, Lou, for your help. I looked in my Arabesk 4 for aspect settings - under miscellaneous there's settings but none for aspect. In the edit menu there're settings - menu format - then either 4:3 or 16:9 anamorphic. I set it to the latter from previous 4:3. . I added a short practice film, rendered, and written to dvd. Unfortunately, no change. Playing thru my dvd player there were the 2 bars again. The only place it filled the screen was clicking on play in the "film-info". There my film filled the screen but a dvd film I added to the project (that is 16:9 and was converted to HD when I moved via clipboard to my project) did not fill the screen in the film-info playback area. Also, why are both films showing the 2bars in the scene bin and edit/storyboard clips?? Maybe that's normal for HD? But, I thought Arabesk would remove the bars. They don't in this case. thanks

Re: Why the bars on 16:9 HD product?
OK.....try this. Hopefully this is the situation.
If you downconverted to ARABESK from a HD project 16:9 or even "shot" in SD 16:9, the entire widescreen of your HDTV should be filled UNLESS you have the DVD players menu set to LETTERBOX.
I am assuming you downconverted to ARABESK and did NOT change the setting to AVCHD DISC?
Me thinks that is what is causing the display to appear as you wrote.

thanks much Lou! The dvd player was in 4:3 letterbox. All's well. Funny that other dvds - incl ones made on the Avio - all filled the 16:9 screen but a HD dvd from the S2000 didn't?
