Go to your main setting and check for volume output. Bogart has this, I don't know if the new Smart Edit has the same thing.

Lou where would I find those audio settings? I don't really know that thats the problem. I tryed a tape I shot last week with one of my Sony's And the audio goes in good and play back is good. The camera in question was 1 of my Panasonic's and I tried recording with it a test piece today and it did the same thing. I turned the ALC off in the menue and the audio was over modulated when I recorded it and I put in in th renny and it was barely audible in the scene bin and the story board. It just isn't making any sense to me. I can usually go by the process of elimination and figure where the problem is. This isn't working. Some things are pointing to the camera and others are pointing to the Renny. Bob..
