Hi8 Footage in S4k

Post by Rte80west »

Hi folks,

Have been trying to upload some ancient hi8 footage into the S4k w/ some difficulty. Specifically, after the upload, a scan of the data reveals that the video randomly froze at some points while the audio transfer continued on as normal. Unfortunately, there is no indication of this during the upload, nor is there any on the tape playing on the cam itself. Of course, the footage must be redone, which can be frustrating after awhile. Do not think its a cam issue; thinking it may be the S4k software and/or RCA cords used for transfer? Wanted to swap this old tape footage onto miniDV/DVD to archive.

Hi
I do a lot of Hi8,vhs in to my S4000 but have found it goes a lot easier by using a Panasonic DVD recorder as a pass through unit,Hi8 in to Panasonic via "S" and RCA for audio then out to the S4000 again via "S" and RCA.

If you have a old mixer unit like the AV5 / 7 or a MX10 /12 / 50 this would serve the same purpose or if your DV camera has "S" and RCA inputs record direct to camera.

Thanks, Charles.

As I don't have an option like that available, perhaps it's worth a shot to at least try the S video connection from the Hi8 cam into the S4k. I'd imagine there is an S connector on the back of the S4k unit, right?
