Did a test with SD footage. Using a single layer disk for a project 2 hours and 6 minutes. Disk one lower video quality on the 4k. Disk two lower quality on the Imac. Disk three dual layer normal quality on the 4k. Disk four dual layer on the Imac. Disk three Dual layer was the best, but not much better then Disk one. The disk two on the Imac was the poorest of all. Disk four on the Imac did not verify as complete. I hope to test some HD to SD conversions if processing doen't take too long.

Sure, you just use Add Film like normal.

It downconverts the footage automatically if you have set the DVD to author in SD (Arabesk settings).

Or you can set it to burn HD to the DVD (approximately twenty minute capacity on a single layer DVD).

Or you can set it to burn HD to a Blu-ray (provided your S4000 has a Blu-ray burner.

PS - There was still a serious glitch in the system over a year ago when I sold my S4000 that gave horribly degraded SD DVD results when you used the internal downconvert. I haven't heard if that was ever fixed. Lou would know.

Currently, it is best to output to HDV and then use your deck/camera to downconvert to SD. However, the future ARABESK 5, which is released in Europe, will fix this situation using an excellent DATA rate. So, the current procedure will not have to be used. The results will look FANTASTIC in SD....

I have heard that you can send the hd out to another unit such as an avio. Is this possible? I also have an Avio with DV.

You can downconvert from your HD appliance to the AVIO.

Using the AVIO for HD? Hummmm.................................

It's been awhile-I don't think the AVIO handles HD, but even if it did work in HD, then you would have to wait and wait and wait for rendering-possibly DAYS.

No, you definitely would not want to try to input HD into the Avio.

IF you have a fairly high OS for it theoretically you could, but the finalization would take foooooooooooorever and to no purpose as that would still have you using a MSUS internal downconvert which at present results in a very visibly degraded result.

Your best bet is to go back out to an HD cam and then set the cam to downconvert on the fly so you are inputting an SD version that was converted OUTSIDE of the MSUS software.

It is a pain in the time convert process, but the only practical one until MS addresses the faulty internal downconvert issue.

It sounds like they are not going to fix it outside of upgrading to the next OS.

I was told that you can play the 4000 HD storyboard out to the Avio and record in SD. I tried but was unable to get the storyboard to play to the Avio.

I haven't heard that one before and it isn't true.

Except for latest OS or perhaps that is a promised next OS feature (where you can mix and match HD and SD), if you try to input HD into any Project set to SD with any MS equipment it won't work.

Even if it did I would expect the same degraded results as you would still be relying on an internal MS convert.

Really, the only practical method is HD out to cam and then downconvert in cam back into a SD Project.

It might be slow, but at least it's tedious. ;)
