camcorder issues w/ S2000

Post by Gordon »

See my earlier topic "SD cam and S2000 not connecting". I have returned that cam and now seek an alternative cam that is compatible with my S2000. 2 for-fee emails to MSUS have educated me to some issues many of you may like to know: 1) 60p is not supported by Casablanca systems. (If sufficient numbers of members want 60p compatibility they must notify MSUS who will ask Germany to make the needed software changes.) I suggest we do this since my research shows that many 2011 camcorders (consumer and professional) have added the 60p recording mode. 2) Bogart v3.2 and above should support AVCHD modes. The Panasonic I owned did not agree with this MSUS statement. No one seems to understand why - incl MSUS. 3) 24p or 24f modes are also not recommended by MSUS. Only 30p or 60i recording modes are supported by Casablanca systems. 4) MSUS does have a list of camcorder models that "should work", "possible compatibility issues reported", and "additional notes". All these from user comments to MSUS. I've found that these lists are not particularly reliable and the problem of selecting a camcorder that will work with my S2000 is a kind of "crapshoot". I have found a camcorder that may work. Please see my next topic. thanks.

Well said Gordon... I work exclusively in 30p right now & everything is perfect with all my MOV files maybe some floating audio here and there but nothing major.
I would like to have the 60p option in the future along with proper Twixtor that can handle progressive properly. Right now I am looking into FCP for some of the workarounds.

thanks,Syl. Apparently, 60p has improved color quality and better quality of fast-moving objects. Also, shouldn't we cassies expect to be able to produce 1920X1080 instead of 1440X1080 as MSUS recommends? Maybe we "pay for what we get"? In my values, $2,000 to $4,000 for an editor should do that?? Anyway, what's an FCP? thanks
