You could use Bogart HD Back-up (HD = Hard Drive not High Def) and change which drive you send it too on rotation.
That way you 'should' never be that far out of date if one of the externals go down.
Also if you have Store 'n' Share as well you can convert any of these back-ups into a full Project Environment that you can use and edit directly (as if they were on the internal drive) without having to restore the back-up.
As for solid state, I'm still to be convinced

Sorry to hear of your problems.
Maybe the answer is very simple finish one project first before starting another.
This way you can sleep at night.
But ofcorse you might have a different workflow or clients as I had.
Just a thought as I never started a new project before finishing the one before.
