what is the process?

Post by videojim »

I am wondering how to load video in from a D-SLR? Is it better to load with the USB line, or take the memory card and put it in a card reader, plugged in? Is there a setting the editor needs to be at to see the footage? I am shooting at 1080i. More specifically, this is a Nikon D90 trying to load to an S6000. Thanks.

I use a card reader Jim & set all my projects to 1440x1080p 30p (Arabesk prefers 1440 + I can't tell the difference)
In your case you would set to interlace.
I also did a 2 part webinar with Chet explain all the workflow with HDSLR. It can be found on his website or DVD's are available.

I saw the webinar. Will have to go back and review. In the meantime, set WHAT to interlace? Where is this setting found? The 6K is brand new and nearly totally greek to me, as far as loading and running HD in it. I could probably load in the images with the AV cord, but it would be SD, and I don't have the cinemascope filter to crop out the info at top and bottom, or don't know how to make the Nikon not show em. Either way, I've got more reading to do.

You said your D90 shoots 1080i that would be interlace as oppose to 1080p progressive. (I shoot everything in P mode)
You must first set your project to what format you are shooting in either _interlace or progressive_
In Bogart is the same as SE it just has more settings to include HD editing in progressive mode.

So assuming like you said that your D90 shoots in 1080i below should be your setting before you import your files.

Under Project Settings:

Resolution:
SD 720x480
HD 1280x720
HD 1440x1080 (mine & your setting)
HD 1920x1080

Aspect:
4:3
16:9 (mine & your setting)

Interlace:
off for Progressive (my setting)
on for interlace (your setting)

The highest P it'll set for is 720, but WHERE, besides inside the camera do I set that? Has the editor got someplace to set for that? Where do I find "project settings"?

It might be worthwhile considering purchasing Chet's new tutorial DVD; Foolproof Vol 8 Bogart 4. (6 DVDs, 10½ hours)

Ok, with a little help from Chet at the Monday Morning thing, I got the video to load from the card into Media Manager. Waiting to hear how to get from there to a project. Ideas?

Jim,

You must use the 'Archives' to move the file/s from the Media Manager over to your video editing project.
Short streaming tutorial video here: http://cassieexpert.live.subhub.com/articles/20110806

And remember to have your Project Settings selected properly before importing these files into that project folder.

Chet
