Well, I'm very close to putting my order in for a new S4000 Pro (probably in Sept.) and I'm curious about deinterlacing options.
I just finished a feature documentary that I shot with a DVX100 (which I might sell to buy the new Cassie). When we started the project, I imagined it as a video memorializing old stories, but by the end, it became something more important. And by that time (after around 60 hours of interviews), I discovered that shooting in 60i was not a pleasing as the progressive 24 option. My final interviews looked really good, but the early stuff left something to be desired. The project was my training course, you know.
Anyway, my golf course client kept asking me about HD and finally paid me enough to buy a cheap Sony HDV camera (from their broadcast division, but really low end). It works pretty well with my Letus which gives me good control over the DOF (I use 35mm lenses), but the camera will only shoot 1080i (the HDV variety which, as I understand it, has less color space). Honestly, I've shot a couple interviews with it and the color looks great and the 1080i has a deep look especially with the right lighting and setting the shutter at 1/30--I like a little strobing.
But to be completely honest, I know that no matter what, the progressive stuff with the DVX might look better even though it won't be as sharp or in 16:9 (that is without a conversion lens or squeeze--never squeeze!). So, I may be married to the Sony for my next doc, which will be a TV project under an hour in length.
Is there a filter for the Cassie under the new S4000 system that will deinterlace for US? I want to try to process my HDV footage to make it look a little more film-like, even tough it may not matter for TV. Thanks!

Re: Deinterlacing with Casablanca?
Here is a little trick that works in HDV.
Take your scene and add slow motion at 2X-NOT MOTION PERFECT.
Take that scene and then add Quickmotion at 2X.
You have just De-interlaced your scene.
BTW: The folks who make CB PAINT will be adding an interlaced effect sometime in the future.
===================================================================================================================================
You may also want to use MOVIE MODE which is 30fps and less jerky. It is found in the Special bin using SE7 and BOGART SE.
AND...it is FAST on my "S"4KPRO

Re: Deinterlacing with Casablanca?
Now your first suggestion is really cool. I noticed that the slowmo option added strobing and I used it on some b-role I shot with neat results. It did not occur to me to then quickmotion it. What effect does this have on sound?
And I'm looking at Sept. for a S-4000 Pro purchase. Looks like it will be able to format my stuff for Internet without using my Mac which would be great.

Sound is fine. Try the reverse with Q-Motion first. Make sure that Slow-mo is also set to 2X. See how you like that effect.
