Avio-Power turns off

Post by Steve »

The school system I work for has about 20 Avios. One of them keeps turning off after about 45 seconds and then sometimes turning back on. The avio is running the 3.6 Smart Edit Software. Thank you for any help.

Hi Steve,

It could be almost anything - the Avio is aging. The hard drive could be going. However, I could suggest a few things:

Check that there is proper air flow around the unit - if there isn't then heat builds up and can cause the unit to behave strangely. Make sure that nothing is blocking the air holes in the back (and bottom?) of the unit.

Unplug the power cord from the Avio itself and from the wall and then plug it in again. Do this several times - it may scrape off any deposits that have built up due to arcing.

Do a complete re-install of the operating system.

You could try the following if there is no service contract, the unit is out of warrantee, no students are watching you, you can write the Avio off if it doesn't work, etc. Clean the dust out that may be causing heat build up. Unplug the Avio. You may want to take the Avio outside. Open the top cover and make sure to take special care that you don't pull out any wires that may connect the top cover and chassis. Using a can of compressed air, blow out the dust that has probably accumulated around the fan, circuit boards, heat sinks, and wherever you see it. If you were doing this in the colder seasons you'd want to take precautions against static electricity, but right around now where you live I don't think it would be a problem.

All of the preceding suggestions are at your own risk, peril, etc. There is no guarantee that any of this will work. The teacher assumes all responsibility and does not hold MacroSystem or any of its subsidiaries, me (I don't have any subsidiaries ;) ), or anyone else responsible except themselves or anyone else that they choose to blame in the great state of North Carolina! :D

CK,
Thanks for the reply. I have tried some of your suggestions, but I will go back and try the rest tomorrow.
