Claro connection

Post by AntKewen »

I have a Sony HDD DCR-SR90 Camera which only has a mini usb socket for digital video output. My Claro only has an i.link Firewire input. Can anyone suggest how I may get my digital video from my camera into the Claro?
Is it possible to input video into the Claro from a DVD?

None of the Smart Edit machines are capable of inputting video via USB.

If it was me I would input from the cam to the PC and then firewire or analog from the PC to the Claro.

Thanks for that Tim.
I have tried connecting the PC with firewire but the Claro still gives the message 'no video signal'. Could there something in 'setup' that I'm missing?

The firewall should not be an issue as I do not believe any of them guard firewire ports what with them being totally local to your system.

You do need to be making the connection with a software that is capable of importing/exporting via firewire and to be able to turn off external DV device control to be compatible.

Windows Movie Maker which is included with most PCs can do this although it is not the best product out there it has the advantage of being free.

You put the Claro in the Record menu and go into WMM, load your video into the Timeline/Storyboard of WMM and then go into the DV export of WMM and follow directions.

You have to do this manually starting up the export in WMM and manually engage record on the Claro side at the right time so I would build in some lead time on the beginning and end of any footage you are transferring.
