Can't burn a blu-ray dics again.

Post by RonaldPawlak »

On my last trip to Alaska I edited the footage and burned a Blu ray disc after a long hard stuggle and a lot of information on this site. Just got back from Panama Canal and Costa Rica and editing the footage again. About halfway editing I would like to burn it to a blu ray disc so I don't loose what I have edited so far, because it so intensive and would hate to do itover again. I have 5.3 bogart version and arabesk 4.2 version. I have a external blu ray burner, (yes, I have the external check mark ON in the settings.] After doing some intensive editing, I created it in the finish menu, story board lenght 29 minutes. In the arabesk setting I checked Bly Ray media as the target destination, burn to DVD . I go to the add program, go to all, create
and rendered. Everything is fine to this point, when complete rendered, I put in a bly ray disc and tell it for the fifth time to render. And for the fifth time I get the message DISC WRITING COULD NOT BE COMPLETE after try two types of discs. Does someone (Chet Davis?) have a proper procedure for burning a blu ray disc to an external blu ray burned. Every thing works fine in regular HD which I will burn so as not to loose what I have in case the hard drive crashes. I even did a back up of the hard drive but, I don't know where it went, or is successfull.

I don’t have an external BR burner and am not therefore able to answer your question. Hopefully someone can advise as you will ultimately require to burn a disc.
However, if your primary aim at this stage is to save your project to date and then carry on editing, why not do the process I have described below.
You mention you tried doing a backup, do you have an external HDD and if so what did you do?, With an external HDD you should be able to back up the story board, or with the HD backup program installed, back up the entire hard drive.
I can give you some further info on backups if you so wish.

Copy a Project to Another Project
This enables all or part of the contents of one project to be copied to another project on the same HDD. Although not technically a failsafe backup, since it is on the same HDD, it can be useful to use as a temporary save and restore point in the event of problems or corruption occurring later in the editing process.
1. Select the “Project settings” page
2. Under “Project” click “Select” ensure the project required for copy is selected.
3. Under “Project” click “Copy” which brings up a box asking what should be copied, tick all boxes if the story board, scene bin and audio samples are to be copied. Then click “OK”
4. A window opens showing all the project environments that are unused, select one and click “OK”.
An exact copy of the original project will be placed in that project environment and either the original or the copy can be used to continue editing. Name this project as appropriate

There are two check-offs. In Arabesk and the in the main setting which you are aware of.

I have an LG which works fine. Make sure you are using a compatible disc with your ext burner.

Compatable Disc? If you mean use only Blu-Ray disc, I done so.What does that mean? I have used Verbatim BD-R, 25 GB 6X Write Speed, Blu-Ray discs, and also JVC Blu-Ray disc which worked the last time. What are the settings suppose to be in the arabesk settings.? I have them set at Blu-ray25gb, the other set at Blu-ray disc.

Ian right now I have the same project on two other projects, one at 1920x1080 and the other at 1440x1080, sent one copy to the media manager and also did a back-up. Like you say it don't help if the hard drive crashed. I'm thinking of just burning a disc in HD, at least I know I have a master copy even though it is not a bly-Ray disc. I don't know where the back-up copy went, is it stored somewhere in an internal hard drive?

Thanks for you quick responses.

Since discs worked last time for you it is not your issue. The issues in the past are related to incompatibility with earlier burners which only allowed 2X media. The S4000 original Blu- ray burners are an example . I have issues with Sony discs with my LG. See below which worked for me using Sony discs.

There is a second menu setting ( not the main menu setting which needs to be checked -off)
in Arabesk that asks you to use an external drive and not the internal. Is that turned on?

Hint: I am sure you already tried this, but place your empty disc in the ext. burner before opening up Arabesk and let it populate first. You will hear it stop rotating Then open Arabesk and try ghee drying process.

In your first post on this topic you wrote:-
“I even did a backup of the hard drive but, I don't know where it went, or is successful”
In your second reply you said:-
“I don't know where the back-up copy went, is it stored somewhere in an internal hard drive?.”
I’m just a little unsure of what you mean by “hard drive backup”.
To do a secure HDD backup, you need an external USB HDD connected to your Cassie.

If you used the “Archive” in the settings menu, you can export a story board, which will go to the media manager and will be in the MM “Archives” No7 films. However, this of course is still on the same internal HDD and if you had a HDD failure, it would also be lost.

The only practical way to ensure all your data is securely saved in its original resolution, is to buy an external USB HDD. If you do go this route there are lots of options for securing data, which as I said before I can explain the options, etc.

If you don’t already have a backup external HDD, I strongly think you should consider getting one. I not only do frequent HDD backups, but also use them (I have a number of external drives) to store all my original footage and all my completed storyboards, which are in the original resolution, not compressed.
