Stereo Mix in Solitaire
I imported some audio from a CD that was recorded in stereo but when I play it back in Solitaire it is in mono. I can play the CD on a different device that runs through the same mixer and hear it in stereo. I also tried recording directly through the audio line inputs (set for stereo) and got the same result. Any ideas?

Hi Ron,
How are you monitoring the audio that is coming out of the Solitaire? Is there a button on that device that has a stereo/mono setting?

I have just done some testing on my Solitaire
1. Inputting direct from a CD
2. Using the from RCA input with the following settings “Input” - Front, “Mode” - Stereo
I both cases the audio was stereo, that’s checking the output with headphones and viewing the L/R indicators.
I’m not sure what you mean by

You can import the audio direct from the CD, no mixer involved.“I can play the CD on a different device that runs through the same mixer and hear it in stereo.”

Re: Stereo Mix in Solitaire
I have traced the all the cables and checked all the settings on the mixer. Everything appears as it should be. I have also tried using different inputs on the mixer but the result is the same.
I have several pieces of equipment connected to the mixer. If I play the CD on another piece of equipment I can hear it in stereo coming out of the mixer. So I think I have eliminated the mixer as the source of the problem.

When you play the audio out of the Solitaire, how are you listening to it? The Solitaire doesn't have a headphone out nor stereo speakers.

I hear the audio output through the mixer. Other equipment connected to the mixer plays audio in stereo. I can hear the audio source CD on another device in stereo. But the audio from the Solitaire is mono.

In my reply earlier, I said I can hear the audio in stereo, but I am listening from a head set plugged into the monitor, which means the audio is coming from the Solitaire SCART output. Where is your mixer audio coming from? the Solitaire RCA output?
Also I suggested you feed your audio direct in from the CD tray, not through the mixer. If you do this and the audio out is still mono, then the issue is possibly with the Solitaire output. However, if the playback output from the Solitaire is now stereo, then this would indicate some input issue.
If you can state where the Solitaire audio input and output is , it will help to pin point the issue.

Re: Stereo Mix in Solitaire
Some ideas here:
I think that the Solitaire has loaded stereo audio, unless there is a software glitch. When was the last time you re-loaded the operating system? Your profile lists Smart Edit 8.0 - the last release with fixes was 8.3
You could try another method to monitor by running the audio out of your Solitaire into a stereo receiver or some kind of stereo recording device and listening.
Have you tried ripping the audio by putting the CD in the Solitaire itself and using the import button in the Audio Record window? You can adjust the audio from there.
Try recording the audio into the Solitaire and use the panning knobs for those channels and pan the left channel all the way left and the right channel all the way to the right. Play the audio you have in the Solitaire back through the mixer, right and left each with their own input. Then use the panning knobs for those channels and pan the left channel all the way left and the right channel all the way to the right. What kind of mixer is it?

Re: Stereo Mix in Solitaire
In the last suggestion above I was referring to the panning knobs on the channels you are using on the mixer.

Re: Stereo Mix in Solitaire
After numerous cable swaps and mixer connection switches I was finally able to hear stereo coming out of the Solitaire. So I feel better that the problem was in the mixer, not the Solitaire. I was worried that there was some mono/stereo control in Smart Edit that I was missing.
By the way, to answer a previous question the mixer is a Mackie 12-channel mic/line mixer.
