ISO Files

Post by Rte80west »

I'm coming up to speed with the ISO file option in Arabesk 6 and am considering using this as an additional archiving tool (currently I just archive to tape and DVD). My question is this: because only the image is saved (and once entered back into the device, no editing is possible, only another DVD can be burned), is the amount of space required of a hard drive considerably less than what is required with the traditional form of archiving a storyboard or scene? Because if it is, then this may be an attractive option for archival purposes.

Anyone have any thoughts on this or additional archiving reccommends?

Thank you

By the way, I only say THEN it will be a useful archiving tool because I have a large volume of video and dont want a hundred drives lying all over the place. For this reason, I have historically avoided the hard drive backup route.

Interesting point.

Try this and get back to us:

.Make an ISO from ARABESK

.Same project but this time save the SB as a backup

Place both files in a folder.

Check the PROPERTIES and see which file of chose is larger.

In BOGART 6....we will be able to SAVE individual projects. That file may be smaller but be proprietary. Whereas the ISO File is universal with any free ISO software burner.

The .ISO files can be anything up to the same size as the DVD disc - up to 4.4Gb for a "standard" SD 2 hour production and so on - so relatively small.
They, out of interest, read very quickly back into Arabesk v6 (complete with menu's etc).
Also they can be read into a PC or Mac and burned as normal DVD's too.

The Bogart v6 back-up although a very neat (and very quick) option uses the uncompressed footage (that we need to edit with) and so produces larger files, with no effects etc.
If you include the scene bin and audio this all gets even bigger but is still a very good option - especially with HD footage (no need to render it first).

Just to add. I would guess it is safe to assume that a large ISO would be produced for large HD projects thus requiring a Blu-ray Disc which can be 25 GB's
