Flagging

Hello all

I've recently edited a job and aired it out over our cable access channel for viewing and noticed a flagging and crackling sound in certain portions, mostly upper, of the video which was burned to a dvd and sent out thru cable on a sony dvd player. When I play dvd at home on my own equipment there is no loss of signal per say only thru cable . Is there something that can be done when editing ,also volume is very low thru cable no where near original levels.

If you know you gave them a good copy there's nothing you can really do except bring it to the attention of the cable station, it's a transmission problem.

Is it possible that the audio on your DVD was too hot, thereby triggering some sort of automatic levelling control in the playback circuitry at the station that can also introduce problems to the video signal?

I have had the same thing happen to me when I have run a show on cable. The picture was much darker and the audio was lower. After talking with a friend that produces commercials for tv, told me that it is real important to have a vectorscope to display information about the chrominance (coloring) portion of the video signal.
He said you also need to know what the cable companies output level is to the viewers. Once you know this, you may need to make your audio level higher then normal, but not overmodulated.
