Is there a specific procedure for removal of an external hard drive from one of the front USB ports on the Karat? Similar to what is done w/ Windows and "Safely Removing Device" icon?
if the drive is not currently writing I usually just unplug it. Wasnt sure if there was a specific procedure regarding when to plug in/unplug.
Thanks

Re: Removing External Drive from USB port
Other than just shutting the machine off I don't know of an equivalent to "Safely remove hardware". I've removed USB drives from Cassie machines many times with the power on and have never had a problem.

Re: Removing External Drive from USB port
I would err on the side of caution with firewire we were advised never to connect a firewire device with Cassie on, with ex drives mine are connected all the time so come to life when my cassie is switched on so if i want to remove an ex drive i just wait till i'm finished and cassie is off then remove ex drive or if i want to remove ex drive during use just switch cassie off takes less than 5min. Just my 2p

Charles is absolutely correct. It's the safest way to avoid any software errors on harddisc

Re: Removing External Drive from USB port
Sometimes there's an on/off switch on the ex hdd (I have a couple that have this but I don't think the newer ones do) and as long as that is off it should be safe to unplug.
