Mouse variations/crashes
My first Karat works flawlessly. My second one had periodic crashes when using the ball mouse. After several frustrating months, I decided to try a different ball mouse. After making the change to a different mouse, my crash issues disappeared. A closer inspection revealed that the first mouse was a much darker red than the second one. The black dots were harder to see. Has anyone else noticed this color difference? Disclaimer: The problem mouse did not ship with the second Karat. It was one already in use on another Cassie -not Karat. If you are having frequent crashes, check the ball mouse!

Interesting. Can you expand a little more on that?

Hi Bob,
Did you ever clean the trackball that was giving you problems? Dirt and dust can gather around the sensors located in the trackball socket that would prevent proper functioning. You can find information on maintenance on the internet.
I'm also wondering if its possible that the trackball cord has frayed internally thus intermittently causing dropouts or even shorts.

Re: Mouse variations/crashes
Hi Craig The problem began when I switched from Renommee Plus to Karat using the same ball mouse. At the time I attributed the issue to the new Karat. I was able to minimize the crashes by being slow and deliberate with the mouse.
Yes, I regularly clean the contacts under the ball on both Karats. Bad cord is a possible cause. I will do some more testing today by alternating different ball and mouse combinations to see if I can isolate the issue. Thanks.

Re: Mouse variations/crashes
Yes the ball mouse for my Solitaire is very red, the ball mouse for my Karat is noticeably darker ... cranberry color. although I have at times interchanged them they both shipped with the units. Did I understand this correctly? Why did you not get a mouse shipped with your Karat?

Re: Mouse variations/crashes
I did get a mouse with the Karat. I just unplugged everything from the Renommee Plus and plugged it into the Karat. So far, I haven't been able to get the Karat to crash on demand. After swapping out the mouse I was able to complete 9 separate projects without a crash. That would have been impossible before changing the mouse. Go figure
