I just installed a new DVD burner. Latest model available.
I am hoping that an old finished project stored in Arabesk will simply burn to a DVD. I just turned on the Kron after about a year dormant. The new DVD burner's drawer opens and closes, so I know it's hooked up properly. The contents of the hard drive are fine and my finished project is still sitting there ready to burn in Arabesk.
Only problem is...the only button that doesn't work in Arabesk is "Burn DVD". I've got a blank disc in there ready to go. The movie's ready to go. But the "burn DVD" button just gets me a red "no" symbol.
Someone on another post (where I asked for instructions on how to swap out the burner) said that it was "possible" that I might need to reformat my hard drive upon installation of a new burner.
Is this true? I'll just puke if my hundreds of hours of work need to be backed up to DV tape and then roughly reloaded to be made into a film a second time.
Does anyone have an idea as to why my "burn DVD" button isn't working...and more importantly, how to get my finished project onto a disc now that I have a new burner?
I'm open to looking at any and all possibilities before committing to a reformat.

John,
No, you do not have to format the drive when you change burners.
When you say the drawer opens and closes, you mean from the onscreen transport control or are you just talking the physical button?
The physical button just means you have hooked up the power right, but perhaps not the jumper pins.
If you are controlling the opening and closing by the on screen controls then the jumper pins are set correctly.
Normally, the reason the Write DVD gives the No Can Do sign is you don't have a Film loaded.
Go into Films, Chapter Menus and see if you have any Films listed there.
If not, then you have to use Add Film and choose the Project that has the Storyboard you want to create a DVD of before you try to burn it (Write DVD).

At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.

PS - And under no conditions would you have to recreate your work even if you needed to reformat the drive for some other reason.
Just go out to tape, reformat the drive and re-input the tape, Add Film, burn DVD.
You do not use, nor need any of the stuff in the Scene Bin for DVD authoring, just the Storyboard so what goes out to tape is the Storyboard and you would just add the Scene back up to the Storyboard after re-inputting it.

John,
You may have to update the DVD driver specific to your burner. Somewhere on the website is some information that tells you how to find out which driver your system currently has installed and the version number of the latest driver. Updating is a very simple process.

Re: Does my Kron know it has a new DVD burner?
Problem SOLVED! Hooray!
And yes, it looks like my movie is still intact and ready to burn.
Special thanks to Tim for mentioning the word "jumpers"...because I totally forgot to set that thing before putting the Kron back together and hooking it up. And special thanks to Martyn, because he's the fellow who originally made a point about the jumper needing to be set to 'slave' when I first posted to the forum last week. You would think I would pay attention...
I haven't actually burned a DVD yet, but the eject button onscreen opens and closes the drawer and now, when I hit 'burn DVD', it asks me to insert a blank disc.
So I assume we're good.
If ya'll were at my house right now, I'd say, let's all pile into my minivan and head out for beers.
What a resource this forum and you gentlemen are. Your two minute responses saved me hours of headaches.

ps. There's still no chicks here, right? I can assume we're all X chromosome types around here?
