Can I do this on my Kron?

Post by johnneumann »

I own a Kron and just picked up SE6, so I imagine I'm able to use some of the newer software

I recently watched the 2009 MacWorld keynote address online.

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/macw ... isco-2009/

One video effect was used many times in the video. Whenever the speaker had a powerpoint slide, the image of the speaker would shrink and become a small part of the screen on the far right. At the same time, the powerpoint slide would enter the screen from the left and become a second, much larger, image. The powerpoint slide would also sit at an angle to the image of the speaker (which was flat) and the powerpoint slide also had a shadow.

The effect shows up for the first time 3m:28s in the video. It's used many times throughout the talk.

The motion, the angle, and the shadow create a pretty compelling effect and I can use it frequently as I often tape seminars.

Do we have such an effect in the MS library that I can use on my Kron?

Thank you in advance for anyone who might want to help me.

John, Have you considered using PIP to accomplish this?

Hi JPaul,

Thank you for responding.

Gosh, it's been so long since I used PIP I barely even remember what features are in there. 99.999% of the time, all I use my Kron for is trimming scenes and using straight cuts and crossfades. All this other software has long gone forgotten by me.

I do remember floating images and static side by side images in PIP. I'll have to look again to see if that dynamic effect I saw in the video I posted above can be done. PIP (at least the version I have) is a bunch of years old now. I'd be surprised if something so hip is in there, but I haven't opened the program in years, so I can't really recall.

Thank you for the suggestion.

John there is a program out which I have but have not used much Picture in Picture 3D. I believe this program would work for you.

Hi Lowell,

You're right. I just watched the PIP-3D demo after I read the suggestion above about PIP. I've sent an email to MS to ask about an upgrade price from the original or having to buy it from scratch again. I vaguely remember PIP being pretty pricey. It does look like exactly what I want, though. If it's price-effective, I'm on it.

They need to create a smiley icon squeezing a penny.

I'd use that one a lot...

Hello,

To help a little with the PIP discussion, you should know that there are three versions of PIP. The straight PIP does just that ...it allows you to place a picture on top of you background scene so you can see both of them. It even allows you a shadow and a frame around the picture.

The second pip software is called pip Studio and it is a much more interesting software. It allows movement around the screen of multiple pictures and offers many different shapes for each pip. They can follow custom paths that you can create for the movement of the images and you can place two images on the screen at the same time over the background.

The newest and most exciting pip software is called pip studio 3-D and allows all of the previous things plus adding three dimensional movement of the pips in all directions and also adds 3-d frames and thickness to the frames that appear to hold their shape throughout all the movements. A wide variety of textures and skin tones are available for the frames as well.

These are all available for a price of course. Be certain to check what the basic requirements as far as operating system and memory are. The newest version may not work unless you upgrade. I'm not sure what is required but it is important to check that before you buy any new software.
