I use the cassie for all the 'laying down' Quad Cam is brilliant and for me has been a godsend. I know I can use multi cam in FCP, but I find Quadcam too easy to ignore. I then use FCP for things like travelling mattes, superb motion titling, digital juice effects (which only have limited use on a cassie) and some other 'artistic' effects I simply can't do on my solitaire as easily.
FCP is certainly a challenge to use, but looking at the hours we put into perfecting our use of our cassie's I would have to say that the fuss required to get some pip's and layouts balanced requires an equal amount of experience. Some things like transparency, pip, titling are quicker and much more flexible in FCP than a cassie. And of course the absolute simplicity and control in creating Ken Burns effect slideshows in FCP easily equals a cassie.
The best thing, however, is simply that you can hook your mac and solitaire/cassie up by firewire and they 'talk' to each other. Video can be sent either way. I edit on a 30" mac screen at one end, and duel monitor/tv for the cassie and pc. I works for me.
With timeline editing on the cassie on its way, there will be many more happy campers. I still find the general lack of ability to use alpha channels from photoshop limiting on the cassie, but as I said hook up a mac or pc and hey pesto!
When will they fix arabesk 3 to work with Mac OSX 10.5. Macrosystems said there would be a fix, not a new release I would have to buy.
