Re: USB Switch?

Post by Volker »

In the past some users experienced weird problems when using electronic VGA/USB switches. For example one user said that his Photo-Studio software does not render any clips/animations another user said that he could not add any projects with the DVD-Arabesk software. We tried everything and as soon as they removed this VGA/USB switch and connected the devices directly to the Cassie, everything was fine. When they connected the switch again, the problems were there again.
So, this is no 100% guaranteed explanation for any weird things that may happen to you but when I have no further clue, I often recommend to remove all those switches from the system and see how it reacts then. Sometimes this hint helped.
But on the other hand I know that there are many users out there who never ran into problems that could have been related to such a switch.

Thanks Volker for your tip.
I will go the analog direction.
I got a single 24X2 switch, will put in a box and wire to 3xVGA and 3xUSB sockets. 57 wires, happy soldering!
The main reason for problems using a KVM-Switch could be commands for switching are done by "Mouse-Commands"
not compatible with Casablanca units since those switches are recommended for Windows PC use.

This is 100% correct. A perfect example is my VGA switcher. This is electronic. I would lose the capabilty of a higher resolution settinging in BOGART SE when switching from my VGA setting from the SOLITAIRE. This occurred only after a new full install or update to BOGARTSE.

I could not figure out the problem until I re-rerouted the VGA from the "S"4000 directly to the monitor. No problem.... and I observed the higher resolution settings in BogartSE. However, I did discover a workaround via pulling out the switchers power plug when updating the software.
