HD footage from external drive to the S4000 Pro

Post by Parsman »

Hi,

Can anyone help me out here, I have several projects from my old renommee plus saved onto an external hard drive, mainly weddings which last just short of 2 hours each. I am desperate to get this footage onto the S4000 pro to enable me to produce Blu-Ray discs of these projects.

I have been trying to import the footage via firewire using "media manager" but the main problem I'm having is this will import footage in 6 minute segments only and even then it's rare I get the full 6 minutes....usually around 4 minutes worth then the import fails!

Anyone know of an easier way of getting the projects loaded in to the S4000?

Thanks,

Parsman.

Currently posting from the Thunder over Louisville festival which is a whole lot more productive than the S4000Pro for the most part. LOL

I have not found the Media Manager very functional as of yet.

Is the quality of the HD good in those six minute sections (my experiments have resulted in unacceptable degrdation) or has the results just vanished with the crash?

The only way I know to get things in on a hard drive is to connect it to a PC and use a nonMS software to send the Hd out to tape via firewire and then cam it in via firewire although currently that will come in unacceptable (pre-edited HDV footage).

I have hopes that bug will be fixed whenever MS has another OS upgrade.

So, actually I know of no way to get previously edited HDV footage input into a S4000Pro currently. :b(

Hello,
Anyone know which is the best (easiest) software to use to retrieve my projects from the external drive to my PC?

Well, I have used Sony Vegas, but as mentioned even that will not currently work as there is a known bug with the current Bogart SE version regarding firewire input of an previously edited HDV footage, even that edited with the S4P where it drops several frames per second.

I expect this to be addressed in the next free upgrade, but I have no idea when that is going to be available.

Also, regarding other software, that is tougher because we are talking HDV and some of the other software such as the much less expensive Sony Movie Studio that works for this with SD footage is not HDV capable.

I would think the next step up which is HDV capable would work, but have never tested it personally and I don't know what other software might prove compatible.

I do know this issue is one of the ones that our editors are very finicky about.
