I import 6o minutes of DV into my Solitaire via firewire and use autosplit that creates 5 scenes. Do I now have two hours of video on my hard drive? Can I delete the original 60 minute import? Does this save hard drive space? Thoughts?
Thanks

You only have 60 minutes of video on the hard drive. After splitting you have 60 minutes of video on the hard drive available at two different sources. The split version and the single file version. If you delete the single version you will still have 60 minutes of video. If you delete the 60 minute version and part of the split versions, you will reduce the amount of used space by the amount of split scenes you delete. If you delete some of the split scene but retain the single 60 minute version, you still have 60 minutes on the hard drive.

Yes, the auto split or even copy just adds "point markers" to the appropriate data already on the drive so it does not "add" any real space being taken up on the drive and so conversely you would not gain any drive space back by deleting it in either place.
