It seems to have gotten to the point that any minor updates still require a destructive install. i.e. 2.2 to 2.3c will lose "New" options and messes up Arabesk. 2.3c to 2.3d also will lose some "New" options as well as some other software glitches unless a full destructive install is performed.
THEORY:
It seems as though the updates effect primarily the OS and add on software and not the recorded video data. What if all the "Install Product" items were all deleted after the "update" and then re-installed and activated, might that possible eliminate the need for a full destructive install involving all video footage, archived items and re-install of all add on software? If that would work, it would be much faster and simpler than a full destructive install. My unit has gone thru the whole process to get to a full destructive install of 2.1 to 2.2, 2.2 to 2.3c and 2.3c to 2.3d. I don't want to test this theory by backing up and doing some of it again. Any Thoughts???

It is certainly an idea worth trying Bob, that is for sure.
As it happens, Jörg mentioned today that the 2.3d release notes were a mistake and the only thing 2.3d addressed was a bios issue that was affecting a small amount of machines that 2.3c was torching on installation.
They should have another update within a couple of weeks as they have fixed the HDV/DV downconvert issue and they are working on a couple of other ones (this update/graphics go missing is one of them).
So we should have an opportunity to test your "what if" fairly soon if they do not fix the problem period with the next update.

My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

Are we going to get an update that improves the quality of AVCHD DVD's? Compared to an HDV file on DVD the quality is dreadful with motion artifacts and washed out color and poor contrast.
