Why not just play the DVD into a Stand alone CD burner. via the RCA out connectors. 1 pass and it's done. Stand alone cd burners are cheap and a job this size would justify the expenditure.

This process is totally dependent on your processing power and has nothing to do with the physical burner itself so you would be far better with a Kron to use the analog input already mentioned, John.
My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

Thanks for the input, everybody. I agree that uploading the DVDs to make CDs is a "specialty-need" function and not something to do as a matter of routine with 14 DVDs.

Hmmm. A standalone CD burner. :)

you know, for the life of me...I don't think I've ever seen one of those before. I've seen the record players that convert to mp3s, but I've never seen a CD burner with audio ins that simply does that and only that. Is that a common Best Buy item that I've somehow missed?

That would be a cool thing to have. I assume they're perfectly reliable? My old Mac (1998 model) would often add a few glitches here and there when I would audio input old cassettes to make CDs out of. It was such a hassle to listen back to the whole audio file before burning to make sure there were no glitches, and there usually was - necessitating starting all over again and hoping for a perfect encoding.

Now, that WAS then years ago...

There are a variety of versions of the CD stand alone burners. The one I have is a Sony. It has 2 decks. One is a playback only the other is a record/playback. Could be used for CD copy/duplicaton. I use it to record music off the satellite dish for listening. They require "Music" cds rather than the usual general CD. The "Music" CDs are easily read by Cassie editors. Some are available for transferring cassettes to CD with cassette deck and CD deck, etc. They are getting to be hard to find as other formats are becoming popular such as ipods. The one I have permits marking "tracks" on the fly while recording in real time. You could record the entire CD, rip off to a PC or cassie edit deck, split into tracks at your leisure and then burn a new master.

Very cool, Bob. Thank you. Helpful information. That's probably my best bet for converting DVDs to CDs - by far.
