Re: New direction? Change? What would you like?
Producing tutorial DVD's is very time consuming, many more hours than the finished product would suggest. I think in the current climate MSUS might have more pressing needs for their personnel. What we should be doing is supporting Chet and his new enterprise. Chet has plans to produce a range of tutorial DVD's and is of course already producing his very useful webinars. Having years of teaching experience under his belt, Chets knowledge of the product and his easy, relaxed style make learning an enjoyable experience. Of course Chet needs to live and for a very reasonable cost you will soon be able to subscribe to his new site. This will bring benefits by way of members only hints and tips, webinars and discounts off the DVD's. Chets site can be found here http://www.casablancaexpert.com/ or contact him here chet@chetdavis.com

WEBSITE: I know we are not talking Apples to Cassies here, but go to Apple and check out their website with beautiful high definition video, exquisite product illustrations and demonstrations. Of course MSUS doesn't have that kind of ad budget, but at least make it look more professional and user friendly and up to date.
MACHINES: I bought my first cassie years ago at $8,000 with accessories, software and extra 18gb hard drive. It "Worked right out of the box" That sold me because I am a complete computer illiterate. I guess because of all the complexities introduced, it no longer "works right out of the box" and "work arounds" are now standard operating procedures. I am still using and loving my trouble free Reno+ with OS 6.2 and making money not spending my time trying to get a project finished.
I have tried high definition editing with OS8 and have not been impressed with the problematic results. Too many issues still not resolved including the lack of true Blu-Ray disc distrubution. The whole entertainment industry seems to to have a choke hold on this HD product with great fears of loosing a dollar. Not even a single stand alone Blu-Ray burner available in the US. But that's another whole issue.
What would I like? A "works right out of the box" editor with with the current applications that can edit SD and HD at a competitive price. I just can't see spending a lot of money on a new unit to generate the kind of problems I'm seeing everyday on the Cassie forums. OK, I know other systems have problems too, but they never advertised "Works right out of the box".

Re: New direction? Change? What would you like?
So true, Bob ! Casablanca/Macrosystem surely spearheaded its marketing strategy with that slogan to a classification they had rightfully claimed their own.
Designing a great webiste is a breeze. We do websites for clients for thousands less than others would would have paid otherwise with other agencies (i.e., http://www.vdvp.com, http://www.stimulatingmedia.com). A great visual curb appeal does invite people in...even if its just for curiousity. And with MS's ease of use and user-friendly functionality, it could easily attract a throng , hold them captive and steal them away, from say, like FCP's high learning curve recruits....among others.

New Website, fast action Eric!
And all the links seem to work, what is up with that. LOL
Add a bit of flash video and a functional Search capacity and it's in full gear.
Seriously, won't win any WOW aesthetic awards, but fits the simple and functional style of the company and it's waaaaaaay better than it's not missed predecessor.

My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

- Casablanca Unit: S2000 with all software. I also have a Prestige that I used on my film transfer station. I have B4W loaded on a laptop. I have a S4000 Pro that I am going to trade in for a discount on software for my B4W setup. I even have my first Cassie, the AVIO that I am going to hook up. Not sure what I will use it for but I want to see it run again.

I agreee with Tim, the new site is much better and very easy to navigate. Now some sample video of the products in action and it will be nice. Did I see a reference to Cassie University or is that on hold now that Chet is gone?

This tallies with another post I have.
Get a decent chroma-key program.
Blue Box World is disgraceful.
I got better keying off the ancient Videonics MX-1 mixer I had 12 years ago.
There must be a better way.

Until we get more professional quality programs it looks like we're stuck at this level Alan. We've got the raw power needed, especially with the S4100 coming out, now we just need the programs.

Re: New direction? Change? What would you like?
New website is nice, although perhaps already mentioned, over-time, could use more pictures that relate to the product offerings (it seems a tad text heavy). I thought the printed software booklets created last year were done nicely and featured great screen grabs of the various software and other cool shots; perhaps some of those could be incorporated throughout the website. I also recall liking the cover page, which showed the expansion and power of the editor (if memory serves me right). Also agreed about featuring a few video clips where appropriate. Looking good so far...a huge improvement.
Speaking of video, I thought Chet’s video on Casablanca Expert’s homepage was very well done; I thought I was watching a prime-time news special report given by a veteran anchor.

Actually, he reminded me of Spock and when he said new "Enterprise" I definitely began visualizing him with pointed ears.
