NEW HD BACKUP FOR BOGART-TIP

NOTE: HD stands for Hardrive and not High Def. This software can used in any format in the scene bin.

This is an excellent piece of software. Not only does it back-up ALL of your projects but any and all of your transitions, music and inserts on the SB are intact as well as the scene bin. Works in SD and HDV w/o problems. Simply use your LaCie or external HD in tandem with your "S"4000 model.

Although HD-BACKUP, is not PROJECT specific, this new software acts as a RESTORE point. By this I mean the editor can back-up his projects then go back to "any day of the week" or year those projects that were saved can be totally restored.. Unlike the Solitaire back-up, this new software backs up ONLY the projects and NOT your entire operating system-a good thing.

See below for a good tip:

For instance, on News Year Day you edited a party and saved the project(s) in HD BACK-UP to your LaCie HD on Jan 1st.

If a change must be made on March 3rd, BACKUP March 3rd first then simply open up the software window, use the dropdown menu, skip any and all dates between Jan. and March previously backed-up and assign Jan. 1st as your project restore point from your external drive. Now adjust your Jan 1st project in the scene bin.

If you must go back to March, simply use the dropdown men and you restored back to the present day.

No more loss of titles...no more re-rendering....all inserts are observed......all music intact........all split scenes in the SB are present.

Lou,
thanks for posting your tip.
I assume you operate with different harddrives for Storyboard Saving and HD Backup?
Is the harddrive for HD Backup also formatted in FAT32?

How does this interface with burning HDV to the internal Blu-Ray drive using the back-up feature?

Thanks.

I use seperate drives but you do not have to. I originally used one drive as the Hardrive Backup software recognizes only the backup you executed. The SB portion recognizes only the save SB.

Yes FAT32...but here is a little tip: If your drive is NOT compatable, the software will prompt the user to format that drive so as to be recognozed by the "S4000. The only problem is that the HD will not be recognized by a PC for some reason. I would stick with the MACROSYSTEM LaCIE to play it safe as they format the drive to specs. But that is a personal decision.

The procedure is simply a back-up to restore from an earlier time, overwrite or delete projects-not indivually but collectively. I read on the German site tha there may be a new ARABESK HDV using AVCHD as a Blu-ray format w/o chapters. Down the line we will or should see a full blown ARABESK with menus in Blu-ray.
