Renomme to external enclosure

Question-- when attempting to "backup the storyboard" to the IDE hddrive enclosure by firewire -- shouldn't more than just "CD/DVD" appear as a choice of destination? Forget the idea of the IDE which I just formatted to fat32, does anyone get more than one choice when selecting backup of storyboard when using a Renomme? I really need to know if anyone else is backing up their storyboard when using the Renomme. Is it possible? As you can see I am getting frustrated. I have formatted the Segate 360gb to fat32, turned the darddrive on after and before turning on the Renomme.

Assuming you "clicked" on the "CD/DVD" dropdown menu and nothing else appeared, then the external drive is not being recognized by the Renomee. You should see the ext. HD in the dropdown menu under the "CD/DVD" display.

Yes, I clicked on the CD/DVD dropdown menu. I would think the menu on the Renomme would show other options, even tho they may not work. I know the S4000P is a diff. machine, but it shows multiple options with the same hddrive enclosure attached.

Gary You may need to use a Lacie since many external hardrives are not compatable with MS. MS offers a 750 and a terebyte Lacie which I have used a lot it gives you a choice of CD or firewire. HTH

Whats interesting is that I have used this drive internally with the Renomme. So far I have used serveral Saegate drives within the Renomme. It's like the software doesn't allow connections other than CD/DVD for backup of Storyboard via USB or firewire.

I have a LaCie 250gb that was on the approved model list that works as is. After going into the "Project Setting" window and selecting "Backup Storyboard" I select CD/DVD and get a choice of CD/DVD or Firewire Hard-drive. Just enter the new name for the project to be saved, Click OK and the storyboard of the selected project is saved to the external hard-drive. I currently have about 18 projects saved to the external HD.

Internal use is a whole different animal to external use.

On the other hand, a LaCie is not required, just the safest and easiest as it is preformatted correctly so there is less chance of user error being involved.

If the hard drive has been properly FAT32 formatted you should be able to click on the CD/DVD button and get a drop down choice of the hard drive.

If you don't it is not being seen for some reason.

I don't have a Renommee, is there more than one firewire connection and if so are you sure you are using the right one?

Are you using the same one you successfully connect the cam for firewire input?

Have you tested the firewire cable (such as will a cam) to be sure the cable is not the problem?

Tim,
There is only one firewire port on the Renomme. The firewire was tested and used on the S4000P. I will have to look for something else to test the firwire port on the Renomme since I don't have a camera with a firewire connection. I will get back.
Thanks for the help.

Hi GaryP,

There are two firewire ports (one front & one rear) on the Renommee. It's worth trying both and using different leads - just to check.

However I've often found Casablanca's a bit reluctant to 'find' such a firewire drive. Try it with the drive running and connected and then turn the Renommee on.
I've even found the S4000 to be a bit picky with firewire drives but with perseverance you can normally get them to connect.

USB, on the other hand, has never had such issues for me on the S4000.

I have a Renommee Plus with a LaCie hard drive connected to the front firewire port and my sony deck connected to the rear firewire port. The Renommee never recognizes the LaCie unless or until I turn on the tape deck as well.

So my suggestion would be to hook up a firewire device (camera) to one port, turn it on, and then see if your external HD is recognized
