I am not able to get HDV signal recognized from my Sony HVR-25U into my S4K Pro. It does recognize signal from a Canon HV30. Any ideas?

Hi Phil,
I have no problem importing footage from M25 to S4KPro.
Please be sure to set your project to "HDV" before importing.
Maybe it was set to HDV for HV30 and not for M25 import?
Also be sure your M25 is set to HDV 1080i output signal
and not SD conversion?

Are you trying to downconvert or import HDV to the 4000?

.On your 4000; Are you set to HDV in the project

.Are in in the proper firewire input in the rear......did you try the front?

.Try another 1394 cable-firewire cable?

.On the 25U, did you disconnect the i-link, make a menu change, shut down the 25U, re-connect the i-link...then powered-up?

.Lastly, I do not like AUTO......as posted by others, use HDV.

I am trying to bring in HDV, not downconvert. I am set at HDV in the project. I had two different firewire cables, since I tried the back six wire and front, 4 wire connector. I will check the settings again, since it is logical that if the HV30 works, why not the M25?

Yes Phil, just as you say it must be logical.
If the HV30 input works, why not the M25 Input.
Seems to be an M25 problem, since firewire cable is OK.
Have you tried importing from M25 recording on HV30?
Please keep us informed.

Thanks all. The answer was simple, the M25 ilink output was set to downconvert. It sounds easy, but I find it difficult to effect the changes using that menu system. I did read the manual and get it to change. Now my S4K reads the output.

Hi Phil,
yes, the menu of M25 is indeed a little tricky for settings.
Thus I wrote a quick step-by-step for down-up-converting.
All this in cheque card size.
If you would like to have this card please post your email-address
and I will send it to you.

Good news. Most problems arise with HDV material into a SD project. In this case it was the opposite. Everything is buried in the SONY menu's. If you want to really see a buried menu, I posted how to record to a CANON XHA-1. They hid that menu in the TIMECODE area...go figure that one.
