S4000 Pro in Single Monitor

I bought this beautiful Gateway Monitor last year after the MGT. It was a special deal that Chet or someone else found. I cannot see the playback from the Finish menu. I thought with all the inputs this thing has I could at least use the DVI input for the menus and then using the SCART, feed the S-Video cable as well. Then I would use PIP on the monitor to see my playback. I have tried virtually every combination and am about to tear out my remaining hairs! What Cassie guru out there has the answer?

With my Avio I have it in dual monitor with a VGA and then an S-video out. I figured I could do the same with this monitor and my S4000 Pro. It has Picture-in-Picture so I figured I could set it up the same way but use just one monitor. When I want to watch playback in Finish on my Avio, I can see it when I choose Record to VCR Analog. But I can't get that to work with this new "super deluxe" unit. I can see why our colleague from across the pond is so fond of his Aviosaurus!

My monitor is the Gateway FHS2400 24-inch Widescreen LCD monitor

Hello Mike,

Well - to give credit where credit is due - it was likely Ron Brookman in CA who turned you on to the Gateway monitor.

I do not know the specifics of the monitor but it sounds like you are trying to get the Gateway to set-up in a PBP configuration, showing your S-4000 in dual-monitor mode?

This should be a setting in the monitor itself, either in the PIP and/or PBP (Picture By Picture) setting. I have that setting on a monitor as well. I would suggest/recommend you also try viewing the S4000 in single monitor mode via DVI output. I enjoy that setting myself.

Perhaps another colleague, a true guru can answer your question if they have that monitor as well.

Chet

Mike:

If you are talking about observing your playback on the monitor while you are outputting your storyboard to DV Tape or DV Recorder, I dont believe our units even send out another signal from any other Video ports. At least it doesn't on my Prestige. You have to observe your video on the built in monitor of the camcorder. I would imagine if you hooked up a firewire "Y" Splitter to the signal being output to your Record Cam or deck you should be able to send the other half to your monitor.

Hey Mike,

I just received your 'Ask The Expert' question from my website... now I see what you're looking to do.
As I mentioned in the Forum - with the current version of the Bogart SE OS you can use the DVI either in single monitor mode as the sole monitor source or as playback monitor (Screen 2) with VGA as your GUI/Interface monitor (Screen 1).

You cannot currently use DVI as your primary or menu monitor and have video playback via composite video... I would consider going full screen with DVI as single monitor and see what you think. I use that a lot and am pleased but folks have their preferences...

Regards,
Chet
