I just received a DEMO unit from Canon today of the new VIXIA HF S10.

I am very happy to announce that the AVCHD files import without problems and produce an excellent quality picture.

I imported the clips via the RECORD window using the USB icon. SO, we now have another camera that can be imported to the "S"4000 and Cassie 111 systems.

Great HD picture quality. The camera is slated for release in April.

Sounds great, Lou. Do you have any inkling of the price yet?

By the way, we're using 2 HV-20s and 2 HV-30s in the studio interview set and they look really good on HD playback. Occasionally, though, when we make standard DVDs of the material via Arabesk, we see an annoying shimmer on horizontal lines such as the upper rims of participants' glasses, etc. Have you noticed this with yours, and do you think it is a camera abberation or a problem with the S4000P? I don't remember seeing any other remarks about it on either BB.

I also get this horizontal shimmering on my Solitaire Plus so I assume it is the nature of HDV compression to ARABESK.

The camera I am testing is a pre-release HF S10. It is sharper than my HV-30 but not as clean as my XHA-1, which is 3-chip. The HF S10 is going to be a winner. It has a a 32G internal card. I also added 16GB as a external card. There are hours upon hours of capturing time. In FULL 24 MPS, the camera is equal to HDV (sharper) but is a true 1920 X1080.

Lowlight capability is no great shakes. However, at least I can limit the amount of grain via the GAIN control. The camera will list for 1399 US. I am sure it will be sold cheaper after a few months on the market like the HV-30.
