Can I take a hard drive loaded with projects, created on my Avio w/version 4.1d or greater, and place the hard drive into a Solitare sled and the Solitare read and open the project folders?

I switch hard drives between Prestige, Prestige Plus and Renomee Plus. They all have to be running the same version of OS software and any aftermarket software that is used in the project also has to be licensed for both machines. Hope this helps.

How about firewire the project out of the Cassie #1 thru the finish, record to VCR, to play storyboard and in Cassie #2 record the firewire signal?

As Bob pointed out - you can swap Hard Drives between the Prestige, Renommee and Solitaire units (as long as the same OS version is active on all those units). I remember something about an issue doing it between an AVIO and a Solitaire but I cannot find anything solid in my notes. You could always try it and the worst that should happen is -- nothing
.
Your other option is certainly do-able -- you can export the storyboard out of your AVIO to DV tape and then back in to the Solitaire. You should also try going direct between units though that can be tricky and does not work on some versions of the OS.

Chet

There was an audio problem putting a drive edited on an Avio into a Solitaire where it affected the playback speed of the audio.
There is no reason to add the "out to tape" method you mentioned as you can firewire directly between the Avio and Solitaire with the SE4 you mention you have.
Just make sure to turn one of the units all the way off before connecting or disconnecting a firewire cable (true for either of those machines with any other firewire connection as well) or you could fry the DV firewire board in the units which is the single most expensive listed repair.

I believe the Audio problem Tim refers to is the sound sampling being different on the Avio to its bigger brothers. Swapping the drive would play the video ok but the audio might sound like Alvin from the Chipmonks (of course I don't rememmber him but I heard recordings)

I regularly send projects from one Avio to another direct by firewire and not had a problem yet.

You can send firewire between an Avio and a Solitaire as well as I use to do that often, but that is not what we are referring to.
The problem comes if you try to physically place a hard drive with Projects created on an Avio into a Solitaire sled and trying to use or edit from there.
