I don't have this format yet but can AVCHD and HDV formats be mixed? Silly question but when imported into a project by USB and Firewire respectively, I guess it doesn't matter when successfully imported into the unit, right?

Yes, you can mix AVCHD and HDV in one HD project.
And if you want to mix HD and SD, you can use the clipboard to transfer the files from the SD project to the HD project for example.
