Post by leslie »

Waiting for S 2000 to get here. Is the Bogart SE anything like the Smart Edit OS? :?:

Hello,

Yes and no. Bogart is based on a completely different system inside....it's linex based which allows it to be a completely open ended and expandable software. This eventually will be a great advatage over the original system that the Smart Edit system uses which is a closed ended system. Bogart is nearly ready but still has a bug or two here and there.

But having said that, the Bogart software is set up to look a lot like Smart Edit. Actually SE 8 and Bogart look very similar. Most of the functions are the same and if you are used to Smart Edit you won't have any trouble learning Bogart. The real difference is that Germany has taken the software from their Enterprise system in Europe and tried to integrate it into their editing software and on the Bogart machines, they call it Media Manager.

This is a completely different piece of software that is separate from the editing part of Bogart. It's like you owning two different houses that sit side by side and there is a very tiny bridge running from one to the other house. This tiny bridge is the only way that you can get back and forth from one house to the other one. You can't get into either one by walking up to the front door.

Media manager is a potentially wonderful product that opens up an entirely new world of possibilities, but for now it is a little troublesome as they haven't worked out all the details yet and you may find yourself getting lost or not being able to make it work properly. They are working on it and when it's fixed it'll be great. But you will miss being able to play back a DVD in the editing section of the software without having to walk over that tiny bridge to the other house and play the DVD in the Media Manager section as it can't do it in the editing side of things. Also you may find that you might have to purchase a separate remote control to make it work as it is intended because the software that it came from was designed to work in the living room as an integrated music system, TIVO and Photo manipulation. cable and internet connection unit all operated from a remote. The Bogart system does not come with a remote..... it is offered as an add on purchase.

The wonderful part that is coming was demonstrated at the 5th Annual March Get Together for Casablanca users in March when Jörg Sprave, the CEO of MacroSystems took his cellphone in the hotel in Davenport, Iowa and called his Bogart system in Germany via the internet and got it to playback images on his phone which he had plugged into a video projector and we were able to see video from his system in Germany on our screen here in the middle of the USA.

So in answer to your question, Bogart is a lot like Smart Edit and you can learn it quickly even though it has dozens of new and great features that earlier systems didn't have.....the caviat is that it's still new and in it's infancy and isn't quite all there yet.

Hello,

Yeah, I'm still around and plugging away. I have the honor of putting on the "March Get Together" for Cassie users and this will be the sixth year for this event. It takes an entire year to get it to happen and because of the involment in it I don't get to post as often as I would like to.

You keep in touch as well and think about maybe attending the M.G.T. as we call it now. It's the hightlight of the Cassie Owner's year and has become the only National Event for we Casablanca Users. Check out the website:

http://www.marchgettogether.comfor a good look at what we do at this gathering of users. We learn from each other and have a ball. There are several videos on the site that will give you an idea of what it's all about. Enjoy...!
